Uplinq vs. Digits

The choice is between running a modern AI-native general ledger yourself or with your firm, or handing bookkeeping and filing to a provider that owns the outcome.

Both get the bookkeeping off your desk. This page lays out where they differ, dimension by dimension, so you can decide on the ones that matter to your business.

THE HONEST SUMMARY

Before the table, the fair version.

A comparison you can't trust isn't worth reading.
WHO THEY ARE

Digits Financial, Inc. sells an AI-native accounting platform built around what it calls an Agentic General Ledger (AGL). It connects to a business's existing financial tools to sync data, categorize transactions, and run bookkeeping, bill pay, invoicing, and reporting workflows, with a separate track for accounting firms.

WHERE THEY'RE A GOOD FIT

A US business on a modern fintech stack (Ramp, Gusto, Stripe, Mercury, BILL) that wants to replace its general ledger rather than outsource bookkeeping, and already has an accountant to review exceptions, fits Digits well: it is built for always-on financials and dashboards rather than periodic close. Accounting firms standardizing delivery across many clients also get purpose-built tooling, including firm-branded interfaces and exception-based review, that a bookkeeping service by definition cannot sell them.

WHERE THE FIT BREAKS

Digits' published model places a human, the buyer or the buyer's firm, at the review seat: its agents run workflows and pause when human judgment is needed, with exceptions surfaced for accountant review. A buyer who wants bookkeeping fully owned and delivered by someone else, rather than a system they or their firm operate, is buying against the model. Whether tax preparation or filing is offered at all could not be confirmed from Digits' own materials as of this review.

Digits presents itself as an AI-native accounting platform: agents run bookkeeping, reconciliation, and reporting workflows end to end and pause for human review on exceptions, with an Accountant Partner Program and firm-branded add-ons for accounting firms.
AI engine with U.S.-based accountant oversight. Technology does the volume, professionals own the judgment.
Bookkeeping methodology
Digits states it shifts accounting from a periodic month-end close to a continuous, always-on process, with the ledger collecting, booking, reconciling, and reporting activity as it enters the system.

Tax filing
Not published
Available on every plan. Business and personal filings handled by the team that already keeps your books.
Data accuracy mechanism
Digits states its models are trained on large volumes of real transaction data and are designed to know when they are confident, surfacing low-confidence items as exceptions in a Checklist for accountant review, alongside an audit trail of every action taken.
Every transaction is interpreted against your history and reviewed by accountants. Anomalies surface the day they appear.

WHERE THE GAP IS STRUCTURAL

Three differences that don't close with a feature release.

Most rows in a table are details. These three are the decision.
01

Who holds the pen: platform versus engagement

Digits states its AI agents run bookkeeping and reconciliation workflows end to end, pausing only when human judgment is necessary, with exceptions surfaced to an accountant for review. That accountant is the buyer or the buyer's firm, not a Digits-employed bookkeeper delivering a finished set of books.

This matters because it changes what you are actually purchasing. A platform model means you or your firm remain accountable for reviewing exceptions and signing off on the ledger. An engagement model means a provider is contractually accountable for the output itself.

02

The ledger itself changes hands

Digits positions its product as a general ledger in its own right rather than a layer on top of QuickBooks or Xero, stating it brings AI into the ledger itself instead of layering automation on legacy systems, and imports activity from over 12,000 financial institutions through its Connect product.

Adopting Digits is therefore a ledger migration, not an add-on. That is a real switching cost in both directions, and buyers should confirm historical data import scope and export terms directly with Digits before committing.

03

Continuous ledger, and what the pricing rewards

Digits describes its ledger as running continuously in the background, collecting, booking, reconciling, and reporting as activity occurs, rather than closing books on a fixed monthly cadence. For its firm channel, Digits has said it charges firms only for clients where 95% or more of transactions are automated with zero human touch, and that a client's work is free to the firm if more than 5% requires human handling.

That firm-side model ties Digits' own revenue to how much of the work its AI can automate for a given client, a different incentive structure than paying a fixed fee for a delivered outcome regardless of how much human effort it required.

ALREADY ON DIGITS?

Switching costs less than staying mismatched.

Your history comes with you. The work of moving it is ours.
01
Export and connect. Week one. You share your existing statements and reports, connect your bank and card accounts, and meet your onboarding specialist. That is the extent of your job.
02
We rebuild and verify. Weeks two to three. We bring your history onto the Uplinq system, rebuild the chart of accounts around how your business actually runs, and reconcile it against your bank records.
03
First verified close. Month one. Your first month closes on Uplinq with accountant review, and you compare it against what you were getting before. Most businesses are fully switched within one cycle.
MOVING FROM DIGITS

Digits operates its own general ledger rather than sitting on top of QuickBooks or Xero, so moving to or from Digits is a ledger migration. Digits' own materials do not publish export formats, data retention after cancellation, or notice periods; confirm these directly with Digits.

QUESTIONS

What people ask when comparing.

01 Is Digits software I operate, or a service that does my bookkeeping for me? +

Digits presents itself as an AI-native accounting platform whose agents run bookkeeping, reconciliation, and reporting workflows end to end, pausing only when human judgment is necessary. As activity enters the ledger, the platform books it, checks it against firm standards, and surfaces exceptions into a Checklist for accountant review. For accounting firms, Digits runs an Accountant Partner Program that includes a Firm Signature add-on combining private firm-level models with firm branding.

02 Does Uplinq include tax filing? +

Yes. Business and personal tax filings are available on every Uplinq plan, and tax strategy packages are available for businesses that want proactive planning. Because the same system holds your books and prepares your filings, year end is a handoff, not a project.

03 Does Digits replace my QuickBooks ledger, or sit on top of it? +

Digits positions its product as a general ledger in its own right rather than an automation layer on an existing system, stating it brings AI directly into the ledger rather than layering it on top of legacy platforms such as QuickBooks. Its Connect product imports financial activity from more than 12,000 financial institutions as it occurs. In practice, moving to Digits is a ledger migration, and buyers should confirm historical data import scope and export terms directly with Digits.

04 Who actually does the work at Uplinq, software or people? +

Both, deliberately. Uplinq's AI engine categorizes, reconciles, and monitors your transactions continuously. U.S.-based professional accountants review what the system produces and own every judgment call. You get the speed of technology with a real team accountable for the result.

05 What does Digits publish about security and how AI-performed work is tracked? +

Digits states it is SOC 2 certified with end-to-end encryption. It also states it maintains a complete audit trail of every action in the ledger, recording what was done, when, and whether a human or the AI performed the work.

06 What if my books are months behind? +

That's common, and it's a solved problem. Uplinq's Catch Up service rebuilds past months or years of books as part of onboarding, scoped to how far behind you are and the state of your records. You start clean, not from wherever your last provider left off.

07 Do I have to sign a long contract? +

No. Uplinq offers month-to-month agreements as well as annual plans, which carry a discount. If you prepay annually and choose not to renew, you simply give notice 30 days before the term ends.

THE ACTUAL DECISION

You're not choosing a bookkeeping vendor. You're choosing what your numbers are for.

The real question is not which platform automates more, but whether you want to operate a general ledger yourself or hand the bookkeeping outcome to someone else entirely.

Feature checklists don't run a business. Clean, current, legible financials do. If that's the outcome you're buying, see what it looks like on your own books.
