Finalized books

What finalized books means, why reports can change before close, and what to check before relying on a month.

The short version

Your books are finalized when Uplinq has the source data, answers, and review needed to treat a period as complete. Until then, reports are useful for progress, but they can still change.

What finalized means

Finalized books are the version Uplinq has reviewed and is comfortable treating as complete for a period.

That usually means:

  • bank, credit card, and tool data is available for the period;
  • requested statements or documents have been reviewed;
  • transaction questions that block categorization have been answered;
  • accounts have been reconciled or reviewed as needed;
  • unusual items have been checked by the Uplinq team.

Finalized does not mean your business will never have another adjustment. It means the month or period has passed Uplinq's normal review process.

That period is generally ready to use for normal reporting and planning unless Uplinq tells you a later adjustment or review is needed.

Why reports can change before close

Reports can change while a period is still in progress. That is normal.

Common reasons include:

  • new transactions arrive from a connected account;
  • a missing statement fills a gap;
  • a transaction answer changes the category;
  • a transfer, loan, payroll item, or owner activity is cleaned up;
  • a payment processor report gives Uplinq more complete revenue detail;
  • a prior-period item needs to be moved or corrected.

If a report looks different than it did last time, check whether the period is still waiting on any tasks from you.

Where to check first

Start with Home and My Projects. They are the best places to see whether Uplinq is still waiting on files, statements, app access, bank reconnects, or transaction answers.

Then check:

  • Data Hub for file requests, statements, accounts, and connections;
  • Transactions > Questions for questions that need your answer;
  • your Uplinq bookkeeper or team if the report looks off and no task is obvious.

What to do if something looks wrong

If a finalized period looks wrong, tell your Uplinq team what you are seeing. The most useful message includes:

  • the company or entity;
  • the report name;
  • the month or period;
  • the account, line, or transaction that looks wrong;
  • what you expected to see instead.

Avoid sending a broad message like "my books are wrong" without context. A specific report, period, and line item helps the right person review it faster.
