Giving Uplinq read-only access (and why it's safe)
Step-by-step read-only access for Chase, Amex, Bank of America, and Capital One — access that can never move your money.
Giving Uplinq read-only access (and why it's safe)
Most accounts connect cleanly through Plaid. But when a bank won't connect — or when we need to pull statements, check images, and reports directly so you're not uploading them every month — we'll ask you to add Uplinq as a read-only user on the account.
Read-only access lets us see your activity, balances, statements, and check images — your bank might label this "view only" or "limited." It can never move your money. It also replaces the insecure habit of texting us a 2FA code every time we need to log in.
Before you start, your onboarding specialist will give you the exact Uplinq user name ("Uplinq Bookkeeping") and email address to add. Use those when a portal asks who you're inviting.
American Express
- Sign in and open Account Services.
- Go to Manage Account Manager.
- Choose Add an Account Manager and enter the Uplinq name and email your specialist gave you.
- Select limited access. You can safely deselect extras like travel and concierge perks — we only need to see account activity and statements.
Chase
- Sign in and open Account Management.
- Go to the Access & Security Manager.
- Choose Add Authorized User and enter the Uplinq name and email.
- Set the access level to read-only — your bank may call this "view only" or "see activity only".
- Turn OFF the option to approve pending transactions.
- You can skip granting mobile access — we don't need it.
Bank of America
- Sign in and open Business Services.
- Go to Manage Users and choose Add User.
- Enter the Uplinq name and email, then open Manage Access.
- Allow view statements and view check images.
- Leave all transfer and payment permissions OFF.
Capital One
Read-only delegate access generally isn't available on Capital One accounts. Instead, we'll keep your books current with monthly statement uploads.
What read-only access can and can't do
To be completely clear: read-only access means we can see your activity, balances, statements, and check images. We cannot move money, send payments, or change anything on the account. If a portal ever offers us more than viewing access, choose the most limited option — that's all your bookkeeper needs.
Some portals send a one-time code while you're adding a user. Make sure the phone number on file can receive texts so you can complete the steps. Once read-only access is in place, you won't need to share codes with us anymore.
