Uplinq and QuickBooks
When QuickBooks Online is part of your setup, what to ask before changing it, and why Uplinq reports may not match QBO during cleanup.
If QuickBooks Online is part of your Uplinq setup, treat it as a connected accounting system, not a separate source of truth to edit casually. Ask your Uplinq team before changing settings, deleting transactions, or reconciling periods in QBO.
When this applies
This article applies when your business uses QuickBooks Online with Uplinq. Some customers use Uplinq without QBO, and some use QBO for tax, historical, accountant, or operational reasons.
Your exact setup may vary, so use this page as a guide and ask your Uplinq team before making major changes in QBO.
What Uplinq needs from QBO
Depending on your setup, Uplinq may need access to QuickBooks Online to:
- review historical books;
- compare prior accounting records;
- support catch-up or cleanup work;
- coordinate with an outside accountant;
- prepare books for tax or reporting work;
- help Uplinq review accounting records when QBO is part of your setup.
If Uplinq asks for QBO access, follow the request your team provides. Use read-only or accountant-style access when that is what Uplinq asks for.
Why Uplinq and QBO may not match right away
During onboarding, cleanup, or catch-up work, Uplinq and QBO may not show the same numbers yet.
Common reasons include:
- Uplinq is still waiting on documents, statements, or transaction answers;
- one system has newer bank or card activity than the other;
- categories are still being reviewed;
- a prior period is being cleaned up;
- transfers, loans, payroll, or owner activity need review;
- QBO has historical entries that Uplinq has not finished reviewing.
Before you rely on either report, check whether the period is finalized and ask your Uplinq team if the numbers disagree.
Before you make changes in QBO
Ask your Uplinq team before you:
- delete, merge, or recategorize transactions;
- change the chart of accounts;
- reconcile or unreconcile a period;
- disconnect bank feeds;
- invite or remove users;
- change tax, payroll, or closing settings.
Uncoordinated changes can create duplicate work or make cleanup harder.
If your accountant uses QBO
If an outside accountant or CPA needs QBO access, tell your Uplinq team. Include what they need to review and whether they need QBO, Uplinq, or both.
