Balance Sheet report

How to read assets, liabilities, equity, report periods, expandable rows, drill-ins, and downloads.

The short version

The Balance Sheet shows what the business has, owes, and owns at points in time. Use it differently than the Profit & Loss: it is about balances, not revenue and expense activity.

What the Balance Sheet is for

Use the Balance Sheet to review:

  • Assets, such as bank, cash, payment processor, receivable, inventory, or equipment balances when those apply;
  • Liabilities, such as credit cards, loans, payables, and other amounts owed;
  • Equity, such as owner contributions, draws, retained earnings, and current-year income when those apply.

The exact rows you see depend on your accounts, data sources, and how Uplinq has reviewed the books.

Balance Sheet vs. Profit & Loss

The Profit & Loss explains what happened during a period: income, expenses, and profit or loss.

The Balance Sheet explains where the business stands at a point in time: what it has, what it owes, and the owner's remaining interest.

That is why the same transaction can affect both reports in different ways. For example, a loan payment may reduce a liability on the Balance Sheet.

Only the interest portion may appear as an expense on the Profit & Loss.

How to read it

  1. Open Balance Sheet.
  2. Confirm the company or entity.
  3. Set the Report Period.
  4. Choose the Frequency if you want to compare balances by weeks, months, quarters, or years.
  5. Expand account sections to see more detail.
  6. Click a number when it is clickable to review supporting transactions.
  7. Use the download icon if you need a copy of the report outside the app.

Some calculated or summary rows may not drill into transactions. If a balance looks wrong, send Uplinq the report name, period, account line, and what you expected.

Why balances may look off

Common causes include:

  • a bank, credit card, or loan statement is missing;
  • an opening balance or catch-up period is still being reviewed;
  • a transfer, loan payment, or owner activity still needs context;
  • a connected account is broken or stale;
  • the selected period ends before the transaction you expected.

Before asking about a balance, check Home, My Projects, and Data Hub for open requests.
