Payees and 1099s
How to use the Payees page, understand W-9 status, and review payee totals without turning it into tax advice.
Use Payees to review vendors, W-9 status, and 1099-related totals when that applies to your account. If a payee looks wrong, add context or contact your Uplinq team before assuming the amount is final.
What the Payees page is for
The Payees page helps Uplinq and your business review people or vendors who may need W-9 or 1099 attention.
Depending on your account, you may see:
- Payee Name;
- Review Status;
- 1099 Amount;
- Total Amount;
- W-9 Status;
- actions such as Upload W-9, View W-9, or View Transactions.
Not every customer will have the same payee workflow.
1099 Amount vs. Total Amount
Total Amount is the total activity Uplinq is showing for that payee in the selected period.
1099 Amount is the amount Uplinq is treating as potentially relevant for 1099 review. It may be different from Total Amount for several reasons.
Some activity may not be 1099-reportable. Some may need review or may be handled differently based on the payee and transaction context.
If the difference looks wrong, use View Transactions or ask your Uplinq team.
What W-9 status means
W-9 status is meant to help you tell whether Uplinq may need a W-9 or already has one on file. Labels and meanings can vary by account, so use the Payees page and any Uplinq request as the source of truth. Common status ideas include:
| Status idea | What it usually means |
|---|---|
| Required or requested | Uplinq may need a W-9 for this payee. |
| Uploaded or complete | A W-9 or equivalent information may have been provided. |
| Not required | Uplinq may not currently need a W-9 for that payee. |
| Needs review | Uplinq or the customer may need to confirm the payee details. |
This page helps with review; it is not a substitute for tax advice.
When to upload a W-9
Upload a W-9 when the Payees page or your Uplinq team asks for one. If you do not have the W-9, ask the payee for it or tell Uplinq what is blocking you.
If the payee should not need a W-9, add a note with the reason.
