Financial Overview

How to use Financial Overview for revenue, expenses, net profit, trends, and period drill-ins.

The short version

Financial Overview is the fastest way to scan how the business is performing across periods. Use it to spot trends, then drill into the period or transactions that need review.

What Financial Overview shows

Financial Overview summarizes the same broad story you expect from a Profit & Loss: revenue, expenses, and net profit or loss.

Depending on your selected period, you may see:

  • summary cards for Net Profit, Revenue, and Expenses;
  • a chart that compares revenue, expenses, and profit or loss by period;
  • a table view of the same period-level metrics;
  • a drill-in tray for the transactions behind a selected period.

The chart key uses different colors for revenues, expenses, and profit or loss so you can quickly see which periods need attention.

When to use it

Use Financial Overview when you want to:

  • scan whether revenue, expenses, or profit changed;
  • compare months, quarters, years, or weeks;
  • find a period that looks unusual;
  • open the transactions behind a period;
  • get oriented before reading the full Profit & Loss.

Use the full Profit & Loss report when you need account-level detail. Use the Balance Sheet when you need balances instead of revenue and expense activity.

How to read the page

  1. Open Financial Overview.
  2. Confirm the Report Period.
  3. Choose the Frequency that matches how you want to compare the business.
  4. Review the Net Profit, Revenue, and Expenses summary cards.
  5. Look for a period that changed more than expected.
  6. Select a bar, period, or table row to review the supporting revenue and expense transactions when available.

If the page looks empty or incomplete, start by changing the report period. During onboarding or cleanup, a current-year view can look sparse while Uplinq is still working through older activity.

Why a period may look unusual

A period can look unusual for normal reasons, including:

  • a large deposit or customer payment landed in that period;
  • a large expense, loan payment, payroll run, or owner transaction was categorized there;
  • payment processor deposits and fees are still being matched;
  • Uplinq is still waiting on statements, files, or answers;
  • the period is not finalized yet.

Do not assume an unusual period is wrong. Drill into it first, then contact Uplinq with the period and line that looks off.
