Choose the right entity

How to choose the right company or entity before uploading files, answering requests, or asking questions.

The short version

Before uploading a document, check which company you are viewing in Uplinq. If the document belongs to a different company or entity, switch to that company first or ask your Uplinq team where it should go.

Why the entity matters

Uplinq organizes books by company or entity. Uploading a document to the wrong company can slow down review because your team may need to confirm where it belongs before using it.

This matters most for:

  • bank statements;
  • loan documents;
  • payment processor reports;
  • receipts;
  • tax documents;
  • W-9s and 1099-related files;
  • documents that mention more than one company.

Check the company context first

Before uploading, look at the company shown in the app. If you manage more than one company in Uplinq, use the company switcher or company context before sending the file.

If the request came from File Requests, respond through that request. That usually gives Uplinq the best context.

What to do with shared documents

Some documents mention more than one entity. Examples include a loan, insurance policy, payroll report, tax package, or owner document.

If a document applies to more than one company, upload it where Uplinq requested it or ask your team which company should receive it. Add a short note that the document covers multiple entities.

If you uploaded to the wrong company

Do not upload the same file repeatedly unless your Uplinq team asks you to. Contact your Uplinq team and include:

  • the company where you uploaded it;
  • the company it should belong to;
  • the file name or document type;
  • the approximate upload date.

Your Uplinq team can tell you whether to leave it, add context, or upload it again under the right company.
